Jakarta – BRIN Public Relations. The aquaculture, agriculture, aviation, and mining industries are four highly important sectors for Indonesia. These industries play strategic roles in supporting the national economy and development.
The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), through its Deputy for Research and Innovation Utilization (DPRI), together with PT Avirtech Solusi Teknologi, PT Aering, and PT Mineral Industri Indonesia (Persero), have agreed to establish cooperation in the utilization of research and innovation in the fields of aquaculture, agriculture, aviation, and mining. This cooperation marks a concrete commitment to advancing technological innovation in Indonesia and is aligned with the Indonesian Government's efforts to enhance innovation and the competitiveness of national industries.
This commitment was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BRIN and PT Avirtech Solusi Teknologi on “Research and Utilization of Research Results and Technological Innovation in the Fields of Aquaculture and Agriculture.” BRIN also signed an MoU with PT Aering on “Research and Utilization of Research Results and Technological Innovation in the Aviation Sector.” The signing ceremony was held at the BJ Habibie Building in Jakarta on Tuesday (31/10).
Previously, BRIN had also signed an agreement with PT Mineral Industri Indonesia (Persero) concerning Research and Utilization of Research Results and Innovation in Mining and Mineral- and Coal-Based Industries, which was conducted through a desk-to-desk process.
Deputy for Research and Innovation Utilization R. Hendrian, in his remarks, stated that industry partners are among BRIN's most important and strategic partners. Therefore, of the seven deputy offices within BRIN, one is specifically dedicated to research and innovation utilization, which includes the Directorate of Research and Innovation Utilization in Industry.
“From the existing organizational structure, it is clear that the utilization of research and innovation in industry is one of BRIN's key focuses and priorities,” Hendrian explained. “BRIN's current objective is to open the door as widely as possible for cooperation with industry partners, including in aviation, aquaculture, agriculture, mining, and other sectors.”
He also expressed his hope that this cooperation would be followed up immediately and proceed to the technical implementation stage. This stage will take place after the MoUs are signed and will involve the utilization of research results developed by BRIN researchers, including those at the Research Organization for Electronics and Informatics (OREI) and the Research Organization for Aeronautics and Space (ORPA).
“One of BRIN's greatest achievements would be seeing the research and technologies developed by our researchers directly contribute technological solutions to our partners, particularly industry partners, enabling them to grow more rapidly,” he said.
Hendrian emphasized that the heads of the Research Organizations (ORs), together with the heads of the Research Centers (PRs), should oversee the implementation of the cooperation at a more concrete technical level. This is intended to ensure that the signing of the MoUs does not remain merely ceremonial.
Furthermore, Hendrian highlighted several potential areas of collaboration between BRIN and its industry partners. These include cooperation with PT Avirtech Solusi Teknologi on the development of water-quality sensors, as well as monitoring groundwater levels in peatlands using remote sensing and other methods. Other potential areas include supporting equipment such as sensors for carbon trading.
Collaboration with PT Aering will focus on the utilization of research and innovation in the aviation sector, particularly the development of avionics systems, including flight control computer technology. The cooperation will also cover the development and utilization of sensor and instrumentation technologies, including technologies related to operations and maintenance.
Similarly, with PT Mineral Industri Indonesia (Persero), the identification of potential issues for joint research could be followed by technical-level planning. As Hendrian emphasized, the objective is to produce tangible and concrete outputs from the cooperation.
Hendrian expressed his hope that the signing of the MoUs would strengthen the parties' shared commitment to enhancing innovation, increasing industrial competitiveness, and advancing research that would provide significant benefits for Indonesia and the business community at large.
“I am confident that this cooperation will pave the way for various innovative collaborations and further research that will transform the landscape of our technology and industry. Hopefully, the work produced by our researchers can provide concrete benefits, not only for the business community but also for the nation and the country as a whole,” Hendrian said.
Meanwhile, PT Aering Director Gunta Akhiri expressed his appreciation for the cooperation agreement concerning the utilization of research results and technological innovation in the aviation sector. He explained that the collaboration originated from a business-matching event organized by the Deputy for Research and Innovation Utilization on 31 July–1 August 2023, which subsequently led to the signing of the cooperation agreement.
Gunta expressed his hope that, going forward, the parties could share and exchange information regarding the use of laboratories for testing or verification of design results. He also hoped that the knowledge, facilities, and research laboratory infrastructure owned by BRIN could be utilized for research, development, assessment, application, invention, and innovation in the aviation sector.
Meanwhile, The Ferdy William, Director of PT Avirtech Solusi Teknologi, stated that the signing of the cooperation agreement would bring significant progress in aquaculture and agricultural technology.
According to Ferdy, the cooperation provides a strong foundation for the research and innovation efforts that have been undertaken together. He described the signing as a major step forward in strengthening and deepening the partnership. He emphasized the importance of applying information technology in the agriculture and aquaculture sectors to support food security, the economy, and environmental sustainability in Indonesia.
“We are committed to applying the latest technologies and innovations in these two sectors. We are very enthusiastic about sharing our research and innovation results with BRIN. Through this MoU, we will collaborate in various aspects of research, technology development, and the utilization of research results for the common good,” Ferdy stated.
This cooperation is also expected to strengthen Indonesia's technological independence in the fields of aquaculture, aviation, and mining. By reducing dependence on technologies and innovations from abroad, BRIN can contribute to the development of technologies and innovations that are tailored to Indonesia's needs.
Also attending the signing ceremony were Head of the Research Organization for Electronics and Informatics Budi Prawara; Head of the Research Center for Aviation Technology Fadilah Hasim, representing the Head of the Research Organization for Aeronautics and Space; Head of the Research Center for Remote Sensing Rahmat Arief; and Head of the Research Center for Electronics, represented by Fadjar Rahino Triputra.
